Baby it's Cold Outside

Friday, 8 June 2012

Baby its cold outside. Yes it is. And there are plenty of reasons to retire indoors. You want to hear some of Coco's? Fine I'll tell you, but only because I think you're great.
  • There is nothing better than a warm pot o' tea. I'm addicted to Eve's Instant Honeyed Ginger Tea. You can add it to your green tea as well. I drink it just as is, so yummy and great for winter and to ward off little colds.
  • Stripey pumps. Stripy pumps are in full rage at Mr Price and I'm smitten with their cuteness.
  • Leg warmers. Yes this is a weird one. But its too cold to wear those lovely stripey pumps alone so whipping on some leg warmers over your jeans or leggings looks great. Warning; stick to similar hues of colour for example I do super dark blue (almost black) jeggings black leg warmers and dark red and black striped pumps. Also I don't have those nice skinny beanpole legs a lot of girls have so the darker the more slimming- better with the addition of all the knitting of the leg warmers. Fun!
  • Reintroducing myself to Bon Iver. Nothing better than listening to some good music snuggly and warm in the arms of someone gorgeous. They sound like an abandoned house far away only housing two people with the same smile. And guess what? The word Bon Iver is derived from the french phrase bon hiver meaning "good winter" or "have a good winter". If that isn't a good sign then I don't know what is! Grab a warm body and close your eyes...
  • Wolves. Whether it's tea, coffee, wine, cake, art, boardgames or a band on a Thursday it's the perfect place to stop for a bite or a beer. Shelter from the cold has never looked / tasted / sounded this good. Total addict, always will be.
  • Creaming myself up in this fry weather. Hand cream is a must! Healing Hands Lime Tree Extract and Grape Seed Oil is my ultimate favourite! The smell is unbelievable and its SPF 15. Divine!
  • Spending more time with my loved ones. Summer tends to drive me to the corners of the city to explore and be the true sun baby I am. Winter on the other hand makes me want to be close to people. And only people I admire and love. One of those little people (yes he's my little person) is my Pekingese Louis. I recently joined the Pekingese Rescue of South Africa. Reading a lot of the stories made me burst into tears. If you're looking for a little love to warm your lap and your heart this winter please go {here} and adopt a Peke like my Louis. I promise you will always be warm and you will be saving the life of one of the relations of the fluffy angel who daily warms my life. Blessed.
  • My sisters wedding. Yes my big sister is getting married! I cannot wait for next weekends family overload in beautiful Swellendam. A small wedding with only family and the closest of friends, celebratory perfection. Not to mention I really need a break.
  • A fireplace of course. If you can find one, if you have one or if you know a restaurant with one, don't tell anyone but visit her often. There is no warmth like the warmth of a natural fireplace, the smell of real burning logs and the glow of the smile it produces.
Hope this helps you keep the chill factor to a minimum! Hold her tight, keep him close.

PS. It's important to tell the people you love how much you love them while they can hear you.

Beautiful Leather Bird Brooches
There is so much beauty in the world and so much great art, naturally handbags and leather goods should fall into the same category. When I heard that Missibaba had a pop-up store at my favourite spot Hand I put my foot on the pedal.

I’m a sucker for beautiful things. Being a female designer I demand great design in clothes and accessories as well. Missibaba makes this little designer girl very happy. The smell of the leather was intoxicating. I actually recall saying to Shanon (my wonderful friend and owner of Hand JHB) “I shouldn’t have come here.”

Feeling like Alice is Wonder-bag-land I pranced around the wooden bag ‘Tree’ and introduced myself to every bag with loving affection.

“Missibaba is a luxury accessory design label established five years ago by leather aficionado Chloe Townsend. Passionate about South Africa and supporting local industry, Chloe opened her Studio in the heart of Woodstock where she could surround herself with the best craftswomen in the country.

Combining technical skills learnt at the London College of Fashion with an inherent passion for uninhibited creativity, Chloe created the inimitable Missibaba brand. A playground for all things leather, Missibaba continues to experiment with texture and colour continuously pushing the boundaries of imagination.”

I bought me an Aztec. Ladies I highly recommend you invest in one, two, or twenty-six of these gorgeous pieces. Below are some of my next wants but there are many, many, many i want to get there Coco paws on... prrr.

Xoxo

PS. The detail in the handbag is the buying point for Coco. My Missibaba is peach and cream candy stripe, delish.

Beauty in the black...
Stumbling around the internet must be a design dorks favourite pastime. It really is a deep dark tunnel of creative pulling’s with inspiration and innovative stimulational stop offs along the way. Sometimes I get so deep into it hours fly by and I am spoilt for choice with all the tabs I have collected in my net window. Happily smug and proud of all the designer smut I’ve found I save the links and feel secretly satisfied with the days lurch into the interweb. However, the days I find gems I end up flying, researching the designer/ artist/ photographer I have discovered till I know their every artistic internet stepping stone. My problem is... black and white always sucks me in.

Today I discovered Danish designer Barbara i Gongini. Oh hell.

“In 2009, Danish designer Barbara i Gongini was one of the ten up-and-comers who presented a sustainable collection for Bright Green Fashion, a collaborative project of designers from Berlin and Copenhagen who are striving for greater environmental and social responsibility within fashion production. While Gongini’s environmental concerns have remained in place after the project — the fabrics are made with mostly organic fibers, the production is all fair-trade, and recycling, sustainability, and safer production methods are among her central concerns — there’s no washed-up hippie aesthetics here.” - Oakazine

Barbara’s designs are rough but sleek. To me her designs are Alice in Wonderland meet The Ring. They’re uncomfortable and unnatural yet beautiful. The darkness makes her designs seem slightly sinister yet the styling makes the look demure. Bold shapes and rich textures in a limited palette of greys. But the clothes do, somehow, look recycled — the collection’s pastiche of asymmetric structures and textures (waxy tulle and canvas, trash-bag irridescent blacks, knotted plastic knits, sculptural and tattered furs) recall a sort of post-apocalytpic re-piecing of found textiles that is both haphazard and deliberate.  And her peep-toe pumps and simple black brogues adorned with clusters of oversized rubber spikes are made to last, but covered with a paint that will deliberately crack and wear over time, adding to the eerie distressed and futuristic feel.

Her work, design, styling and photography is art, shadowy art. I love it.

PS. There is further to go in the darkness.

Found here...

So my hair is rather long. Very long... And I hate the little birds nest that develops from the winter outfit of scarf plus jacket or hoodie and beanie and hat and neck snuggler... Any way you know what I am getting at. So it is easier to just pin it up. I find pony tails a little ‘gym class’. When I was searching for a nice little pony-tail idea I came across this. I am in love. Its just too fab!

Tie it in a knot, tease it up and enjoy! Will try it this weekend. Having a weekend in the bush... Hmm... Pony-tail town!

PS. Live like coco... Like there is no tomorrow!

If I were male... I'd be Glen Coco... only Mean Girl fans will get this...

Oh M gee, my legs look like stalks...
I have to be honest. I am not a fan of floral. Its too girly and I look silly in girly. It also reminds me of Granny curtains... And moth balls... Awkward silence.

But there is something so fab about floral skirts. Short, little, colour-crazy, high-waisted, picturesque leg canvases! I know it was a 2010 trend but I have only recently seen them out and about in the last couple of weeks, and in a big way. Why do I like them? Maybe it is because summer is almost over and I am clutching at straws... Or at floral skits... To try and keep my last shreds of summer alive and to not give in to the already woollen catastrophes and winter wonders in the shops. Boo.

But really they are actually super cute and pairing them with a vest or a tank and a belt and a nice bag... Bla bla CUTE! Gonna go get Coco one.

Happy Friday my lovelies. Long weekend in South Africa, enjoy it! My first long weekend at home is ages... I cannot wait!!!

PS. I’m the skateboarder, life is my skateboard.

See, look, look at all the pretty!
Sometimes you see something on someone in the street and you just WANT it. I’m not like that. I see something on the net and I want it! I recently came across a blog that I really love. Strictly images and the occasional bitch quote,  Hayky Loves is a blog where I want... I want a lot of the clothes in her pictures. I have a few wants for my next pay cheque. They consist of:
  • A hat, as above
  • White skinny jeans (dono if I can pull these off...)
  • Crown-braided hair. (under the hat) easily done!
  • A double chain shoulder strap by Coco Chanel (naturally)
  • Black round toe wedges
  • Crazy cool headphones!
  • A secretly hidden tattoo... *maybe

Fab! Thank goodness its payday... Off to the shops...  “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” - Coco Chanel

Have a great weekend fashion fairy’s!

PS. Undercuts on girls scare me a little...

Zebra Lash!
 must admit that this has been a tough first week back. I’ve done virtually no blogging this year. Thank goodness it is still January. It is so funny how little things keep you going. Since today is Friday, that’s means it is fashion day on Coco. Thus I decided to incorporate the two and and found these stunning paper eyelashes on DeZeen by Paperself at The Temporium {here}

Like I said its the little things that keep you going!

Xoxo

PS. Coco will be back to the normal blogging on Monday.

Oooh I love them!

French inspired weekend... C'est la vie
Why do the weekends leave me so quickly! Even when I make a point to cherish every moment they go by in a flash. This is what I learned;
  • Louis (my Pekingese pup) went to La Pawtique and got ‘The Lion’ cut. He looks insanely handsome!
  • I love anything grape flavoured. Mmm!
  • Some people are just mean. And I do not deserve their abuse.
  • I still love French (English subtitle) films. I finally got my hands on La Vie en Rose. Stunning!
  • I also love Marion Cotillard and how she portrayed Edith Piaf. And how mad scary she looks in the movie and how gorgeous she in in real life, amazing.
  • I also, still love Edith and her haunting French music.
  • Staying in the entire weekend saves a lot of moola (money).
  • It is the end of the year and even when 'relaxing' on the weekend I still feel exhausted. *see next point.
  • If I work one more weekend it will kill my fragile little spirit.
  • I cannot wait for holidays so I can turn off my phone and ignore everyone. I need some space!
  • I need a straw hat... And the search begins.
Xoxo

PS. Thank you to La Pawtique, they really are the best (and only) salon I will ever take my little angel to.

Framework by Moxy Creative {here}

Living in South Africa, having sunglasses is like wearing shoes. Obviously you don’t really have to wear them, but you’re going to be in a lot of pain if you don’t! The cruel South African sun is even hotter here in my wonderful Johannesburg. Being that much closer to the sun is really not that good of an idea if you don’t have your trusty sunnies.

I have a whole lot of different looks. Fashion shades are just divine. There is nothing better than a new shiny pair of (*unscratched) new shades to try out. Since I am an avid collector I never pay too much for eye protection and I enjoy trying out different looks. I have quite a round/square face. No it is not that bad! As most sunnies suite me and my round face I use this to my advantage and I’m not scared to try something extreme. I like the bigger the better! Jackie O to Jack Nicholson, This Jaxi can wear them all!

I found this on the net and thought id share it with you. What style are you? Personally, loving the Costello’s, must be a Leo thing.

Xoxo

PS. Those blinkers are only going to get smaller without a little shading! Moles are never in fashion...
