See, look, look at all the pretty!
Sometimes you see something on someone in the street and you just WANT it. I’m not like that. I see something on the net and I want it! I recently came across a blog that I really love. Strictly images and the occasional bitch quote,  Hayky Loves is a blog where I want... I want a lot of the clothes in her pictures. I have a few wants for my next pay cheque. They consist of:
  • A hat, as above
  • White skinny jeans (dono if I can pull these off...)
  • Crown-braided hair. (under the hat) easily done!
  • A double chain shoulder strap by Coco Chanel (naturally)
  • Black round toe wedges
  • Crazy cool headphones!
  • A secretly hidden tattoo... *maybe

Fab! Thank goodness its payday... Off to the shops...  “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” - Coco Chanel

Have a great weekend fashion fairy’s!

PS. Undercuts on girls scare me a little...

The Alphabet

Thursday, 24 February 2011

Being a designer I have this weird connection with typefaces. Someone once told me that a typeface is an alphabet in a straightjacket... Perhaps a designer is an artist in a straightjacket.... Anyway! So I found this awesome little type video on n9ve I quote:

The Alphabet that's my new personal project, a spelling-video, where each character is the initial letter of a font name. direction + cel animation + motion + sfx music track: Si tu n'étais pas là – Fréhel” - n9ve

Is it not the most wonderful little video ever!? Me thinks so.

PS. French music... Prrrr!

Dunny Diary

Wednesday, 23 February 2011
Hi there, I belong to Coco!
Once upon a time someone who knew me very well bought me a gift. A gift so perfect I never wanted another one because it was so faultless that no new gift could compare. Well those days are over and now I want another!!

Do you know Dunny? No I am not talking about the Australian slang... *Ew! I am talking about the Dunny vinyl designer toys created by Paul Budnitz and Tristan Eaton, and produced by Kidrobot.

Here is what Wiki says: “The toy is based on a rabbit figure with distinctive tubular ears. The origin of the name 'dunny' came from a combination of street slang and one of the early "Devil Bunny" prototype. Dunny comes in three sizes - 3", 8" and 20". The toy has three points of articulation; a 360 degree rotational head and two arms. Dunny sometimes comes with accessories that fit inside the sockets of the hand, such as a laser gun or an ice-cream cone. Sometimes the accessories can be as sophisticated as a gas mask, a crown or even a hoodie. An artist card or sticker is also included with the dunny.”

Pick me, NO, pick ME, no-no-no pick meeeee! Prrrr
They are a designers dream come true! Another great feature is they come in ‘blind boxes’ so you have no idea which one you are actually getting. That one up there... That is my Dunny. He’s a SERIES 5 CHASE 3" (2008) Devilrobot. And whenever I go into a meeting I rub his head like you would a Buddha's tummy for luck, or in this case Design Luck! Seems to work.

SO here are a couple of the ones I like, there are so many, go {here} to see the entire range! I love that dominatrix reindeer, hysterical! And that Ketchup one? Gosh they are all so divine. So creative.

Hope to get a new one this weekend... Will keep you updated!

Xoxo

PS. I am a designer... I’d rather have a Dunny box than a box of chocolates. *KaPOW!

Weekend Learning's

Sing me a song and we might dance!
I had such a fantastic weekend. I wish I could replay! This is what I learned.
  • I have a cold. In the middle of summer! If this is my body trying to tell me to slow down its got another thing coming. Psh.
  • Warpaint is my band of choice at the moment... Between them and Bat for Lashes my ears are happy.
  • Staying in on a Friday night is bliss. Especially with great company and good wine.
  • Scrapbooking is really not my thing. I am much happier to design a page on my Mac and print it out!
  • Id rather have a bunch of Protea’s than a bunch of roses, *thank you.
  • Autunm is coming, there are leaves everywhere!
  • Puppy looooves to play and chase leaves.
  • Some people just don’t understand the meaning of the word ‘NO’.
  • I have made lovely friends at my office.
  • Radium Bar is the oldest bar is Jozi and it is fantastically real.
  • Fratelli’s in Greenside on a Sunday is divine, its all about sun, great company and live music!
  • Seeing old friends and making new ones makes for interesting conversation.
  • The future is exciting and uncertain and maybe a little unstable and I love that!
Xoxo

PS. When one door closes... twenty doors open... *preferred!

Black Swan

Thursday, 17 February 2011
Schizophrenic much?
When I went to see Black Swan I was sure it would be on my favourites by the time it ended. However I actually walked out with a nervous laugh and was scared the whole way home.

I think it is a little overrated and I didn’t feel that the effects were that great. It is labelled as a ‘psychological thriller’ and none of the people I went with felt it was that mentally moving. It didn’t make you think. After seeing films like ‘Inception’ where it really does mess with you, I found Black Swan a little thin.

It is however incredibly disturbing, and the character complexities are intricate and alluring. A comment that was noted through most reviews is that the audience was not educated enough on the character of the young ballerina Nina Sayers, played by Natalie Portman. Her history could have played on a much deeper emotion and would have made her that much more illusive.

The movie follows Natalie Portman’s journey to getting the lead role in Swan Lake but her struggle to come to terms with the black swan, a more seductive version of her perfect part the white swan.

This leads her down a psychological trip of paranoia and self doubt believing that the young, sexier Mila Kunis
(Lily) will take her part. Mila is really stunning in this movie, I found her character a lot more interesting than the Nina part.

Go see it! But watch out for some scenes with bits which will make you jump and bits that will make you so uncomfortable you’ll want to hide under your seat! I almost climbed under a couple of times.

Xoxo

PS. We all have a little black swan in us, others have ugly ducklings.

How gorgeous!
The lovely leading ladies...

Fly away with me....

This weekend was a different kind of weekend. I had a weekend of sorrow and love! This is what I learned.

  • Having a funeral and a wedding in one weekend can erupt a lot of strange and different emotions.
  • I am strong and I can easily take on life alone, no need for your ‘help’ thanks.
  • Being a bridesmaid to a special couple is a honour, words cannot surface.
  • Photo-booths are so AWESOME! Lets go again!!
  • Rain during a wedding is still an African blessing in my eyes.
  • Sometimes you have to let go in order to gain balance.
  • I miss my lomo... I think its time to go on a shoot!
  • Bat for Lashes is my new favourite lustful music... Awesome!
  • I thought it was just stress but my insomnia is back... Why Mr Sandman, why?
  • This is going to be another big year for weddings! I need a great dress rental service... Help?

Xoxo

PS. Flying away is something I think of a lot these days. I guess I like the concept of landing somewhere new...

Weekend Learning's

"I'll stay here with you." ... "Thank you, don't leave me?" ... "Never."
I lived this entire weekend with very little sleep! Bridesmaid duty is awesome and tiring. This is what I learned.
  • Girly weekend, pink limo and new friends made this one of the better weekends of the year.
  • One wrong digit in the GPS can send you in the opposite direction. So far in fact that you end up taking 3 hours to get somewhere. Disaster!
  • Being barefoot on a summers night is still one of my favourite things and something I forgot in my busy life.
  • Good things come to those who wait, and my work appreciates my hard work. Love my job.
  • You can fit an entire bottle of Champagne in one of those pimp cups, amazing and convenient!
  • ‘Portuguese time” is a real thing, a 2-and-a-half-hour real thing!
  • Making new friends is easy when the bridesmaids are so fantastic... *love you guys!
  • 'Sailorette' is a super awesome theme for a Kitchen Tea/Bachelorette, trust me ;)
  • A death in the family really puts things into perspective. No time to waste.
Xoxo

PS. I’d like to hide in a box, just like these lassies. Thank you and goodbye.
