50 reasons not to date a graphic designer

10. They rather study the paisley pattern on your outfit than listen to what you have to say.
I am a graphic designer. No, I am a female graphic designer. We are a rare and extraordinary breed. Girls who like computing and drawing and know how to fix your dongle problem... (!) are not normal... well apparent I’m not. So... I found this... It is amazing. Here are 50 reasons why normal humans shouldn’t date Graphic Designers. Yes it is all true. Found here at abourbonforsilvia.

1. They are very weird people.
2. There are billions of them in the world, like colours on the screen of your computer.
3. They will analyse conversations in layers.
4. You will spend the day assembling furniture from IKEA.
5. They drink and eat all kinds of weird shit just because they like the packaging.
6. They hate each other.

8. They cant change a light bulb or without making a sketch.
9. They fuck up all the tables with their cutters.

11. They will fill your house with magazines and whatever is out there that has drawings.
12. You never know if it is really an original or a copy.
13. They make collages with your photos.
14. They do not know how to add and subtract, they just understand letters.
15. They idolize people who nobody knows and speak of them as if they were his colleagues.
16. They take pictures almost daily and all are cut in weird shapes.
17. They ask your opinion about everything but  they do whatever they want.
18. Everything is left justified, right or center unless they arrive late.
19. They hate Comic Sans with the same passion they love Helvetica.
20. They use iPhone for everything, because everyone has one.
21. You can not decorate the house without consulting them.
22. They steal street signs.
23. Always carry their hands painted with something.
24. They buy dolls unfinished for them to paint.
25. Everything becomes something other than what it really is: cards as tickets, cards as …
26. When arguing, you will be nicknamed like the OSX spinning wheel (not affectionately)
27. Do not know how to dress without consulting the Pantone book.
28. They hate Excel.
29. They read comics.
30. They want to save the world only with a poster.

32. On vacation they will take you to countries that you do not know exist and have no beach.
33. Museums are their second home.
34. They know more positions than the Kamasutra.
35. They can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design.
36. They listen to music you have never heard of.
37. They can´t cook a normal dish, they always have to experiment with new ingredients.
38. They read rare books: stories of children, Semiotics …
39. When you are going to tell you something, everyone has read it in their facebook and twitter.
40. They have own iPods before you knew they existed.

45. They see ordinary objects and laugh.
46. You wake up in the middle of the night hearing them screaming “When is the deadline?”
47. They see CMYK and RGB like Neo sees the Matrix.
48. They dream of the day nobody will make a single change to their designs.
49. They rather pay for a font than for a special birthday gift.
50. They are always sleepy because they work 24/7.

PS. 51. If I own a blackberry does it make me even harder to understand...? ^~^
Thank goodness my dad was a graphic designer... or else this would be my favourite sticker.

Coffee Kids

Is that a Twitter bird on that Soy cup...? Found at {here}
This is so cute! A coffee cup with a little facie. I do not think I would be able to drink out of any of them, that does not mean that I cannot put them on my blog. I still have not found a great coffee place in Jozi which I truly, madly, deeply love. Any hints?

I do know that I am mad about that cute little espresso! Did you know that an espresso has less caffeine than a cup of coffee

A cup of drip brewed coffee has about 115 milligrams of caffeine, an espresso (and percolated coffee) about 80mg, while instant coffee has about 65mg of caffeine. Decaffeinated coffee is not totally caffeine free, containing about 3mg of caffeine. A 8oz can of Coca-Cola has about 23mg of caffeine, Pepsi Cola 25mg, Mountain Dew 36mg, and TAB 31mg. Tea has about 40mg of caffeine, while an ounce of chocolate contains about 20mg.

The first Espresso machine was introduced in 1822 by the French, but it was the Italians who perfected and distributed it.

Crazy! Happy drinking!

PS. I like you percolated ;)

Little Black Rain Cloud

Fly away with me...
I haven’t done a Winnie the Pooh post in ages. It has been a tough day. Maybe it is because I was up at 5, maybe it is because some people are just ridiculous specimens, maybe it is because I still have a small but annoying cold which encourages sneezing on the hour every hour. Whatever the cause is, the day started in darkness. I know that is because it was 5am, I am not a plank thanks. But whenever I am in this mood a little song pops into my head. A song that I secretly sang in my head most of my teenage years. Sing it, it’ll make you feel better, or just watch the video.

I'm just a little black rain cloud
Hovering under the honey tree
I'm just a little black rain cloud
Pay no attention to little me
Everyone knows that a rain cloud
Never eats honey, no, not a nip
I'm just floating around over the ground
Wondering where I will drip...

PS. Tut-tut-tut, it looks like rain.

Delicious times...
The weekends go so much quicker in Winter. I think its because it gets so dark so quickly this time of year. This is what I learned:
  • Wolves Winter Olympics is a lot of fun, even a copywriter can be beaten at scrabble.
  • Wooden medals on blue ribbon are my favourite thing at the moment.
  • Wolves also sells el Jimador tequila. And it is deadly! Especially when they serve it on tea wear... Its deceptive...
  • You do not have to go to Cape Town to drink &UNION beer, they sell it at Wolves (its not that special).
  • When you want you’re friends there, the people that matter will always arrive.
  • It is so strange how small the world is, really, we all swim in the same pool... Not sure how happy I am about this.
  • The décor at Velvet, the new hotspot in Rosebank, is gorgeous!
  • Going to the Vet is always an interesting experience... I still have the cutest creature on the planet!
  • Life Grand Café is divine! Their cappuccino art is just another reason I am becoming a regular. The barista always give me hearts *blush
  • I watched Dear John yesterday for no other reason than to pass the time. I love letters, on paper! When was the last time you wrote a letter, on paper, with a pen, and posted it? Channing Tatum isn’t so bad either. Yum.
  • I think its incredibly sad how transparent our lives have become with all the social media stuff. How is there ever going to be any romance anymore when all the mystery has gone?

PS. Where have all the cowboys gone?

peeking into life...
Another quick weekend over. There has got to be a way to lengthen them out... Someone do tell!

What I learned:
  • I’ll sleep when I’m dead. Flu shmoo!
  • I have a lot of friends who are Leo’s and they are awesome... If I do say so myself.
  • People still do not recognise me with this hair do. This can work in my favour....
  • Social media can bring people together for good, I donated 3 blankets to the TBD. Read more about the Twitter Blanket Drive here.
  • Sometimes it is actually a better idea to go back to the original plan and stick to it.
  • Ankle boots are hard to pair things with.
  • I am loving Foster The People and their cowboy kid lyrics.
  • Woolworths Hand and Nail cream with pomegranate and papaya is divine.
  • Dancing in new stiletto’s is a big painful mistake.
  • I hate winter, I want summer back, I miss shorts.
  • Skateboards with personalized messages on the underneath are awesome ;)

Photo Skate

Wednesday, 1 June 2011
You know I love black and white photography right? Well if you don’t you clearly do not read my blog a lot. I discovered this post from Art Sponge. I decided I love it. I decided to share it with you. Congrats!

It reads; “Fabiano Lokinho is a former pro skateboarder and currently Volcom’s skateboarder photographer. His monochrome captures of other skateboarders have a cool grain and great composition.”

I just love the vast spaces, chiaroscuros and the lonely life of a skateboarder... Hot.
