I feel like I finally am...

Last week was a four day week and with a three day weekend we crammed a little more in than usual. I really wish I could have a three day weekend every weekend. Bliss! This is what I learned;

  • “Forever is composed of nows.”Emily Dickinson. Don't waste today thinking about tomorrow darling!
  • Those wooden ironing boards are so scary to me. If I met one of those in a dark alley, there is more chance I would run screaming from that than any ghoul or ghost. Every time I iron something, which is often, I freak out. It is so heavy and I almost always get my fingers caught in it while opening or closing this heavy ancient thing and I also scrape my knee on the wood trying to fold it while trying to protect my tiny foot which I always drop it on because it weighs as much as my car. Bastard!
  • Do you know it was Human Rights Day on Friday? I hope you took a second or two to remember and think about all the people who fought for those rights you so often take advantage of. If you'd like to remind yourself, give {this} a read. I often wonder if these holidays are in vein considering most of them are spent dunk or hungover…
  • “The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.”Mark Twain.
  • When a restaurant gets my order wrong I stamp my foot and shout; "Is there any accountability anymore!?" In my head of course. In South Africa, there is little to no pride in the hospitality industry (as you'll have read in my last post about The Griffin *cringe). So when I received my breakfast at Fournos on Saturday morning and found my spinach and feta crepes were empty (I know… what? Bizarre). I was disappointed and sent them back feeling pretty drained of the foot stamping. When the manager who took my order came to apologize and gave us two free croissants as a pardon gift I felt a lot better. Thank you Fournos dunkeld for restoring my faith in, well you, the rest are still on trial.
  • “The smell of good bread baking, like the sound of lightly flowing water, is indescribable in its evocation of innocence and delight.”MFK Fisher
  • I can't begging to explain how proud I am. My boyfriend has started a blog. You can read his ramblings {here} and Help Him Lose His Keys. You be nice now, or you'll have cross Coco to confront you!
  • "Success is fickle, but creativity is a gift." - Tommy Shaw.
  • I am becoming mildly obsessed with my Sunday's. From waking up in the arms of my love (this has to be done, it is a critical part!) to our Nespresso and baked goods breakfast, to a little pillow talk. In the middle there is a lunch, a run or / and a smoothie. There is always some kind of pamper with me getting myself ready for work, painting my nails, giving myself a facial or prepping my work meals. And often an outing with someone, my pup, the boyfriend, a friend or my sister. The accumulation of all of theses things this year have created the perfect Sunday's. Lucky me!
  • Motherland Coffee is one of the places I go on these Sunday's. The coffee is delicious. The shop design is inspiring, and the wifi is free! I have found, more than once that the quality of people at Motherland are rather amusing. This Sunday we sat amongst pipe smokers who looked less intellectual than they articulated and they were discussing the confrontation of the classification of the average wobble-wobble I was distracted by something fun. Still it is nice to eavesdrop here with a cappuccino mustache.
  • "My love for you spans the lines of my past, present, and future. You are what I love remembering, what I love experiencing, and what I love looking forward to." - Steve Maraboli. 18 Months this week with my beau, coo-cooo-ca-choo.

Make it through the five day week my pumpkin heads and fate will bless you with a tasteful weekend, trust me!

xoxo

PS. I like big butts and I cannot lie! No wait I am lying, I only like your butt… babe.

My love, Thank you for loving me at my best,
most importantly thank you for loving me at my darkest. x

Yes, I'm talking to you!

The weekends (*touch wood) are starting to become really amazing. It is not just about cramming as many parties as I can into the short window of freedom… how blasé. They're about quality, about enjoying the time I have with the people I love and about unwinding my coils. This is what I learned;

  • “I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things in life that are the real ones after all.”Laura Ingalls Wilder
  • The Griffin in Illovo. So I thought I'd give this spot a second chance. I shouldn't have. The hostess 'lost' our booking and accused us of lying about making the booking, to be frank she was outright rude. I won't dwell on her issues but to end the night- when there is an unfinished meal and a clean plate and the waitress puts the empty one on the full one… (I wanted a takeaway and before I had a chance to ask she plonked the crockery on my half eaten meal) I swore I would never return. What the F, seriously.
  • Speaking of returning to places; if you haven't already visited the Kerri Evens exhibition at Everard Read I highly recommend it. I had to visit it again on Saturday morning after seeing the opening on Thursday and being blown away. Her art is honestly moving and seductive. I am in awe of her talent. Go now!
  • “Every atom of your flesh is as dear to me as my own: in pain and sickness it would still be dear.” - Charlotte Brontë
  • I really love to walk on the weekends. It is becoming something that if I do not do, I feel like I forgot to visit an old friend on the weekend. And with a double set this last weekend and seriously pushing myself on Sunday, I am feeling quite sore today, especially in the buttocks region. *wink.
  • "Every blessing ignored becomes a curse" - Paulo Coelho
  • Have you tried Happy.Me tea? Well you should! I managed to sample some this weekend and as I thought… amazing! It kept me quite for ages trying to get every last berry flavoured jelly. I think my boyfriend loved the silence just as much as I loved the tea! Its all vegetarian and all natural. You should try it, we can be addicts together… mmm!
  • A spur of the moment lunch on a deck with tapas, Mediterranean style. Water served in pretty glass bottles, the sun warming my cheeks and my handsome man opposite me, really made me longing to be on holiday in some random vacation spot, all loved up and eating hummus. *Sigh… I am REALLY looking forward to this long weekend, can you tell?
  • “He held her as though she was a gift. Given to him in love. Something still and small. Unbearably precious.” - Arundhati Roy

Have an amazing short week my jellybabies!

xoxo

PS. “There’s nothing more intimate in life than simply being understood… And understanding someone else.” - Brad Meltzer, The Inner Circle.

Seriously... life is too short.

Happy (belated) Birthday Coco!

Five goldfish in a balloon, Happy Birthday.

I am a terrible Blogger-Mom. I forgot my own blogs Birthday! And it is my favourite number too...

Cocobutton turned five on the 18th of February. I cannot believe it. I have been at this for five whole years. 337 posts later I still love to share all my deepest, darkest, most ridiculous nooks and crannies with you. Thank you to all of you who encourage me, who push me, who nag me when I forget to blog. You are the reason I keep doing this.

Here's to five more... and five more after that!

xoxo

Rumi, just love.

So, I'm really sorry I had to skip last weeks weekend learning's. But this girls got to earn her crust before she can blog. So I'll make this one a little longer than usual, okay? This is what I learned;

  • “If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I bet they’d live a lot differently. When you look into infinity, you realize there are more important things than what people do all day.” - via Tallerthanlions
  • With all the dress-up parties I went to when I was younger, I can whip up almost anything and look on theme. Little things like this make me glad to be creative, every time, without fail.
  • “Stay soft. it looks beautiful on you.”n. waheed
  • I like sharing sandwiches with people who have similar tastes in sandwiches as I do. It makes the sharing a lot more more enjoyable when you want the other half just as much as you want to eat the other half. Thanks Kira. X
  • Linden, although a little… maybe a lot… rough around the edges… has many little cutie spots for you to go and take a peek at. There are gorgeous little coffee shops, gift shops, even cheese shops and bike shops. You'll be surprised how this tumbleweed town is sprouting tiny blossoms.
  • “What happens when people open their hearts?… They get better.” Haruki Murakami
  • I am happy! Full heart, over worked and over spent, I look forward to every morning. Nothing really gets me down these days. Even though I am tired, I think my eyes sparkle, always just a little.
  • I'm in love with the brain in his pretty head and all the magical places it takes me.
  • “The earth laughs in flowers.”Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • I have not visited sweet Soweto in many moons. On Sunday I popped in for a coconut a kebab and some couscous. Some had cupcakes and while it was raining I felt SO blessed to be in the company of such inspirational souls. My feet might have been cold but my heart was warm.
  • “Anything that gets your blood racing is probably worth doing.” Hunter S. Thompson
  • I am in the process of perfecting the coconut flour muffin. "A what?" You ask? Co-co-nut-flour. The benefits are extraordinary and they are super healthy. The moment they are ready for consumer consumption I will share. Munch.

Have a gorgeous week my glowworms! “Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.” - J.K. Rowling.

xoxo

PS. “Don’t waste sunsets with people who will be gone by sunrise.”

This is true, as I found in Soweto with my friends. Happy.
