2014 Resolutions

Love, may this year be saturated in it. 

Happy New Year! 

I know we have not spoken in quite some time but I needed some time off. With the general stress I was exuding towards the end of last year, a happy-go-lucky blog post was at the bottom of my To Do lists. Looking back on 2013 there was a lot of growth. There were some challenges and lots of successes at work, I moved out of my home and began living alone in my gorgeous little cottage, I travelled the globe, my garden of friendships and relationships blossomed but most importantly I almost lost two of my family members. What a wakeup call. I know I have changed and grown yet again and I am grateful for the people around me who love and support me.

So it is a new year, a good year, a bright year. I have so much to look forward to. There are 5 little things I want to try remember this year. Why 5 you ask? There are always 5, it is my number! They are pretty small but they root from big things I learnt in 2013. They also might seem frivolous to some as there is no 'stake-in-the-ground' resolution like I want to quit smoking or try eat more greens, this is because I've come to the realization that those resolutions are all complete. I want to better myself as a human this year. I want to deepen my understanding and grow from the inside out. 

2014 Resolutions, here they are; 

With all you do, try do it with love.
I still strongly believe in Karma.

Less clutter, a full heart, stay in the moment.
You do not know when it or they will be taken from you.

In all you do, and in work.
No one ever won something for being mediocre.

You get out what you put in right?
My body is a temple.

Last but most important, smile.

Little Dragon's Sunshine

I love a lot of bands. But its rare that I can listen to a band over and over again and like them continuously over time. Little Dragon are about to release their fourth album and just like the very first song from their first album in 2007, I'm totally dancing in circles to their first song "Sunshine". So I thought id share their new song with you. It's so upbeat and summery, its the perfect introduction so Summer. They're also set to be in South Africa early spring. Trust that Coco will be dancing way up front singing like a songstress. Happy weekend lovelies, soak in some magic!

The Alphabet

Being a designer I have this weird connection with typefaces. Someone once told me that a typeface is an alphabet in a straightjacket... Perhaps a designer is an artist in a straightjacket.... Anyway! So I found this awesome little type video on n9ve I quote:

Walking Tall

Now this is something i can believe in!

Keep Calm and Carry On was a poster produced by the British Government in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, to raise the morale of the British public in the case of invasion. It was little known and never used. The poster was rediscovered in 2000 and has been re-issued by a number of private sector companies, and used as the decorative theme for a range of other products.

This one is by far the best I've found, especially after a hard week. Shoes are a great way to soften the blow.

ART & COPY, fantastic!

Being given free DVD's is a joy that just cannot be expressed. Sometimes I even receive video’s about things that I am crazy about. Please do not confuse me with the advertising folk, I am a designer. But I do love the excitement of real, world changing advertising. Not the stuff we see on TV today. Eww.

If you haven’t already seen it, even if you’re not in the industry, you must see it! Its inspiring and jaw dropping.

Here is the Synopsis (taken from the Art & Copy website)

ART & COPY is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Gifts of Gold

It was recently my birthday. On this glorious day I thank the world (*and my parents) that I have been given a chance to make the world a better place.

When it comes to gifts, the meaning behind the gift is more desirable than the object itself. A gift with a little more meaning is an offering to cherish.

This year I got a small, unique and gorgeous little trinket. It is the gift of giving, giving to charity that is. My fabulous Cape Town cousin, Laura, bought me ‘My Gold Heart’.

My Gold Heart is a delicate gold heart charm dangling with love from fine blue twine. The money for the gift goes to charity. Their aim is to reach individuals who actively choose to shift their awareness away from fear towards love. Their beneficiaries include CWD- Catholic Welfare and Development and Bulelani Creche, Delft, Cape Town.

A gift like this I will wear with pride knowing that it did in fact help someone. I Hope secretly that someone will compliment me on my necklace so that I can share the story behind it with them.

Next time you want to get someone a gift, give the gift of gold, saving the world one heart at a time.
